MMCS 2009 compatible unit

Hi,

I have a MMCS unit in my 2009 NT, I have no bluetooth for music or even an Ipod connection which is limiting for use. There are many options for aftermarket units, but whilst I have GPS and rear camera already fitted, I'd like to source a unit that would utilise my components connectivity. Mostly for the rear camera to avoid having to run new cabling.

The GPS is acceptable in my unit, if I need anything more up to date, I use Here maps in my phone. I like these as they work offline and don't kill my data plan. Also accurate with speed data up on screen.

Any thoughts out there?

Thanks,
Hamish

There are heaps of options out there but you'll need to search around to find a head unit with nav, rear camera, BT etc.
One hurdle, which is able to be overcome, is the rear camera and that it runs on ~6V (do a search of the forum, there is a bit of info including how to make it work with a non OEM head unit).

I'm in the same boat where my MMCS does what I want it to do - just, and I am looking at some options.
One I am looking into is to use an Android tablet for music, radio, Nav, rear camera etc. early days tho so not sure how to make it work yet.

I had the exact same grouses with the MMCS on my NT Pajero.
I found a fellow member selling the iPod cable as well as a BT device on the Market Place section, and bought the same off him. Some DIY in taking apart the dash and MMCS later, i have installed the iPod cable and to it the BT device. Now, i am able to stream music from my iPhone via BT while the MMCS is in iPod mode, and the best thing is, even names of tracks and playlists are displayed on the screen, which is exactly what i was looking for!

Thanks dhula and bennyb, all good information. I do need to get an iPod cable for my unit. I do use the Bluetooth for calls and I'm using Android to do so. At home I have a similar Bluetooth module that fits in my iPod connection to my Yamaha Hi Fi, this could work. Not sure if I could connect music and calls at the same time through two Bluetooth channels, time will tell.

I'll certainly check out the 6v camera connection dhula and see if I can make it happen aftermarket.

Cheers

The other day I installed a Pioneer AHV-X8850BT in my wife's Yaris.

This is s beautiful unit, you can play music and video via BT or cable, has facilities for memory card as well as a stick, and the User Interface is easy to use and understand. The sound quality increased dramatically even though I am still using the original speakers.
It is both Android and Apple ready and comes with APPLE CAR PLAY which is lovely. When you have your phone plugged in it displays your IPhone apps on the screen.

The only down side to this unit is it uses the GPS from your phone rather than having its own inbuilt GPS.

This is fine for a Yaris, probably not so great for a 4WD.

I believe they make a similar model with inbuilt GPS as well.

I would strongly recommend one of these units for a double din installation in any car but it does have a 12v camera like most so options are to rerun cable or find a way of picking up a 6v feed as previously discussed.

Steve

Hamish, i am not sure if i understood your query correctly, however am replying based on my understanding.

The facility to make calls or stream music is done by your phone (assuming you are indeed streaming music from your phone). The phone is designed to pause music when a call is being made, and will resume playing music once the call is completed. Therefore, your BT device would be able to handle both the calls as well as music without needing any intervention from your side.

The BT device is connected to only one source at a time, so you cant make calls with one phone and play music off another i suppose. However, i haven't personally checked this out.

Haven't played with MMCSv1, but with MMCSv2 you can connect one device to play music and another to handle phonecalls with no problem.
