Gen 1 - Best looking can we agree?

As the end of Pajero production nears I often wonder what could have been done differently. One of those is styling.

I have always looked at the gen 1 as one of the best looking 4x4s ever made. With its clean lines it's on par with the G wagon. Since the new Jimny has been so overwhelmingly popular with its throwback design I can't help but think Mitsubishi could have done the same and tapped into a new market.

With the new Grenadier on its way, all that research must surely prove that there is a market for the tough, boxy looking off-roader. Mitsubishi has the factories ready to go for a special revival...

I realise this is subjective so I was wondering if anyone else has had similar thoughts?

First Pajero I recall was a white Gen1 shorty with the big orange stripes. Out performed my FJ40 shorty cruiser on the highway (no surprise there) and in the high country.

(and yet it took me another 30+ years to realise how good pajeros are )

The Gen 1 shorties were a good looking little rig

I do agree the gen 1 is the most visually appealing , having said that the widebody gen 2 is also a nice looking vehicle . I think the gen 3 is were it went all wrong , trying to make a 4wd look like a regular suv is probably the marketing decision that Mitsubishi regrets the most

Oh baby, a gen 1 with a 3.2 did and a 5 speed auto. Sign me up. Otherwise I’ll just build my own. I do enjoy my gen 4 shorty though. I can spend hours in it in comfort

I’m similar... wide body NL or shorty Gen 1 with original orange graphics.

Every time I see an original white Gen 1 shorty with graphics, I think about adding one to my (currently very short) classic car ownership list.

                            My 2.2c...

As a closet Range Rover fan, I always thought the Gen 1 front was slightly reminiscent of the original Rangie - I didn't really consider this to be good or bad, and I don't think it made a difference to how I felt about the Paj (I liked it, for the record).

But I agree with 98NL GL - I think the wide body NL shorty is the best looking Pajero to date. Non-Evo - the Evo body kit is a little OTT to me...

Reading MSF's build thread has made me only insanely jealous...
