    gen 1 1988 2.5D VS gen 1 1989 3.0 V6 Diff sizes

I have a 1988 gen 1 and i want to put a diff in that will allow me to have a lokka. Ive been told that the 3.0 V6 has the diff i need and is compatible but im not entirely sure.
Can anyone run me through it the conversion? Would be a big help.

Thanks mate, at least i know the gear ratios are the same.
But what i need to know is if i will need to change out more than just the diff to have it work with the rest if the drive train. Do you know if i will need to change axles, CVs and driveshafts? Or can you put me on the right track?

Sorry man I don’t know much about them but to me I think gen 1 to gen 1 should fit.
I think Gen 2 has a larger Axle.
Hopefully OJ or Disco are on the way to help they will know.

Hey Ashton, you didn't elaborate which V6 transmission you would use, and which trans your I4 is. But I can safely say if you get the axles from the V6 and use that entire set up, it will be fine. 89 V6 manual has the 100mm cv's. They are stout. I run 37's and have only broke one doing 4-5k rpm for a couple minutes trying to get up a 60° slope.

Have a look at the axle data section towards the end of this post: https://www2.pajeroclub.com.au/forum...ad.php?t=13310

I believe you need an 8" diff, and I would be looking for the high pinion version from the Gen 2 V6. That might make it harder to find the correct ratio?

              Thanks for your help guys.
I dont intend to swap out the transmission. im keeping the trans from the 2.5 manaul and putting a 3.0v6 diff in. I have sourced a modified Drive shaft and i believe that should go straight in.
The V6 is auto however, does that effect anything with the diff, or will it still work with a manaul?
