    Draining oil filters.

I have been using Nippon max oil filters in my Pajero. They have a draining bolt in the centre and this makes them very clean and easy to change. You haven't got to handle a oily slippery filter. I remember dropping one in to my drain pan which slipped out of my hand needless to say I had oil splashed all over the place including my eyes. Since using these drain plug fitted filters the job is nice and clean without oil pouring down motor and hand. Simply remove drain bolt and drop the oil straight into drain pan when empty replace bolt and unscrew filter. The other option with conventional other brand filter is to punch a hole in centre of filter with sharp punch and let the filter drain into drain pan before unscrewing filter. The metal is very thin like a bake bean tin and punches through easily. This is much cleaner and simple.

Get powerful filters to ensure great performance from your vehicle. Sydney Filter Services supplies air, fuel and oil filter for cars, trucks and other automobiles.

I tip I came across way back is to place a cup over it from underneath and unscrew it holding the cup. Something like a maccas large coke cup. All the spillage down the side goes into the cup. I swear by it.

I came across the Sydney Filters website AFTER I had ordered new filters from elsewhere. Damn and blast! Next time, I will get a draining filter - it is a much better idea.

On the 4D56 motor the filter is horizontal. I punched a hole in the top and undid it 180 degrees. Caught the oil in a small plastic container and after all drained took it off. Minimal mess but a bit of a pain due to minimum space.

        Cheers

I've been using the Fleetguard LF3830 which has a drain bolt, not sure if they still do though? It is handy having the drain bolt.
