    Rear Recovery Points

    Hi Guys,

Being very new to this 4WD caper, I am going through the lengthy process of fitting up my new Pajero Sport with basic but functional recovery equipment.

Yet another question exercising my (small?) mind . . . this one relates to a factory tow bar and rear recovery point/s.

In order to snatch/tow in a rearwards direction, conventional wisdom says that the single hitching point on the factory tow bar is an acceptable place to attach one's bow shackle and/or strap.

There is evidence to say that a bridle is more efficient and safer.

In the photo attached to this, I have circled a 'cut-out' hole of which two (2) exist - one on each end of the 'factory' (?) tow bar.

One for the physics masters on the forum. Would there be an advantage/efficiency/safety benefit in attaching two ends of a bridle to bow shackles secured to each of the cut-out holes? Moreover, would these qualify as 'Recovery Points'?

    In anticipation, thank you . . .

I can only see the disadvantagse of using a bridle rather than the the centre hitch receiver of the towbar.
In fact the towbar will spread the load more evenly than a bridle strap because the towbar is rigid.
I am not sure I would trust the strength of the large holes in the towbar end plates is a full blown snatch recovery.

      Thank you OJ,

I see many of your contributions in this forum and they invariably are the voice of common sense, experience and reason - as is this one . . . thank you.

I have a number of mates who are engineers and though from time to time there is much good natured banter, there'll be no aspersions from this quarter . . . . for the moment.

      Thanks again and good wishes.
