    Factory bash plates

Is this standard? Or am I missing a factory transmission and oil filter “bash” plate which would be plastic / fibreglass I’m guessing like the others. (I’m aware that aftermarket options are available).

I’ve changed both my sump and Intercooler guards with Boos ages ago but under the Paj only the other day I noticed the rear-facing mounting points behind the cross member and thought shite am I missing an entire plate!! If I am then I don’t remember my NP having one either. And I can’t see where the plate would mount at the opposite (rear) end either.

Did the Plenty Hwy with no oil filter damage though that’s what I was worried most about. Got the Oodnadatta to go.

Never mind, found an old post confirming 2 factory guards only, which are the ones I replaced.

Somebody feel free to clarify why from factory it comes with 2 rear facing mounting points though, if it doesn’t come with a guard. Weird.

      Whatever your situation,
I would highly recommend having a guard there NP or Nx...

We have had stick dislodge the diesel return line once because of the lack of guard there in an NP. And there are a lot oft
Thi gs to be covered under there.

The bushskinz cover much more than the Boos guards as the plates have different widths from memory...

My 2016 V80/Gen 4 in Germany came with these plates; engine protection in the middle being plastic.

Now THIS makes a lot of sense because the only mounting points right at the rear are real wide out on the body frame, threaded holes, so I figured whatever plate it was would have to be wide.

Why the FLIP didn’t we get these here in Oz where we have hundreds of kays on a single road of gravel and rocks.

Thanks mate, I’m gonna sort this after my trip. Bit late now I reckon. Unless there’s something available in Alice Springs lol.

It might be cost saving or perhaps they don't fit the 3rd guard in Oz to aid cooling in our very hot conditions? I'd be wary of fitting extra guards that drastically restrict air flow if towing heavy loads in very hot areas. I like what VW do on the Amarok using strong steel bars rather than plate - this reduces weight & aids cooling, but may not stop sticks & stones?

                Factory Bash Plates

                Something is wrong.
My MY17 NX GLX is fitted with 3 front bash plates, all steel. Similar to the previous post.
See attached pics. Rotate 3rd pic 90 deg. (trans bash plate removed).

The transmission plate suffered a penetration wound from what and where I don't exactly know, but may have been a post hidden under a witches hat in the middle of a well worn track at Yardboro Flat, NSW South Coast, Sugar Loaf Mnt. area. Very lucky it didn't damage the transmission. I thought campers had set up a wicket using the witches hat.

The oil filter can only be removed by removing the transmission bash plate, and I have wondered if they bother when it is being serviced. I have also been concerned about the service guys cross threading the mounting bolts (see other forum posts) or leaving them out or loose.

They must have changed something from MY17, as all 5 of my Gen 4 Pajeros (2x NT, 2x NW & NX) owned from new only had a metal intercooler plate + a plastic plate behind it (nothing behind the front axle crossmember).

I'll have a look under a new car next time I'm at the dealers.

My NX had that plate also fyi. (@ the AT)

                      My NP didnt.

The bushskinz has ample room to access the oil filter from the side without needing to remove the whole plate. I imagine the boos will have more room again...

Cant remember how it was for the stock plate you have pictured above.

Had a look at both Boos and Bush Skins, both have very little side protection. Although the factory plates are light gauge I will stick with them. I'd sooner deform the light gauge plate than shear the fasteners holding a heavy gauge plate. BTW I have very little experience crashing about over rocky terrain and have little inclination to do so although an inadvertent encounter may occur.

My MY17 NX GLS has the plate under the transmission too....

Perhaps this was introduced with the DPF to keep long grass away from the DPF/Hot exhaust. We do know that Ford Rangers have been going up in smoke for this Recall for 73,000 Ranger utes

I think you are onto something there, as it looks too flimsy to be a proper guard.

The new Prado I recently rented in FNQ with all the DPF warning stickers & manual switches smelt like really hot or overheated machinery a couple of times when I got out of it - if I didn't know about the DPF, I would have thought it had cooked itself - I'm not looking forward to the day I inevitably buy a blast furnace (DPF) with a car attached

Looks like it wasn't just the Rangers that did the flames act. The NSW police force BMW did too.
