    NX driving in 4WD mode

Hi, in 4WD (edit: 4H) mode my Pajero runs louder and seems to run harder than in 2WD (edit: 2H) mode. In 2WD mode, mine runs quiet smoothly and engine sound is low. Not sure my Pajero being new (100kms) has anything to do with it.

Driving mine in 4H there is a noticeable increase in NVH. This is why I drive in 2H unless the roads are wet.

I wonder if the increase in NVH is normal?

Not in my NW it's not, but it seems a few members here are complaining about NX's being 'harsh' in 4H

I can't tell the difference in mine (2015 NX) so it stays in 4H all the time.

Are you sure it is not going into 4LLC when you move the lever to 4H? Are the revs any different when in 4H compared to 2H at the same speed? In asking that, I am wondering if the 4WD lever has been incorrectly wired at the factory.

The revs are not too much different in 4H and 2H. Would be really interesting if they rewired it wrong. I thought the shift selector is more mechanical (a stick) than electronic (a dial like Pajero Sports)?

My nw has no noticable change in noise. My ns is always in 4h. The gen 4 use a mechanical rail that can only move forward or backward. This is why you cannot get 2L without mucking around with vacuum cicuits.

Maybe check the oil levels in the diffs, gearbox and transfer case.

In 2H I've had too many cases where the traction control has kicked in taking off and caused a massive loss of power and dangerous situation so 4H is pretty much where it stays.

Before I got new tyres it was even worse. as the rear is an open diff it's very easy to spin a wheel on a bit of sand, oil or water when taking off, especially when turning from a stop sign etc. The TC / ASC is just too aggressive in the way it cuts engine power in these cases.

It can't be in 4HLC, the tail would be jumping around every time you turnedthe wheel and you'd certainly know something was very wrong.

                          Hi dreamerman.
I’ve raised this issue in a thread I think titled NVH in 4H.
Mine is exactly as you state and I share yr disappointment and it’s frustrating when well meaning members suggest “yr doing it wrong sir!”
It’s seems to be an issue that affects later gen 4s only so anyone with an earlier model doesn’t know what we’re talking about.
I won’t prattle on here so try and find my thread on the subject and my progress so far.
In short tho i believe it’s a second order engine vibration (normal eng vibes) that has found a path to the chassis most likely via a grounded drivetrain mount the culprit yet to be found.
Life is getting in the way of further progress on this issue so stay tuned for any updates.
My next course of action will be a process of elimination. My only insight so far is that it occurs possibly because of a torque reaction in the driveline which either grounds a mount or aligns it in such a way that it is not up to the job of isolating any vibes thru to the chassis.
Sorry I can’t provide an exact fix for you - and don’t waste your time going to yr dealership as mine told me “it’s just an ancient driveline- just turn the stereo up!”
I just keep it in 2H which is acceptable.
