Can I remove both rear springs at the same time?

I've installed a set of OME springs into my paj, and have finally worked out there is a drivers and passenger side spring. So, I need to swap them over, but don't have the old springs.

Can I remove both at the same time to swap over?

It will really depends on the method of spring change you use.
If you use the trolley jack under the suspension arm, disconnect the inboard suspension arm at the diff and leave the shocker connected method, then I don't think it would be possible to safely remove both coils and refit them. I have read of others doing coil changes differently but I have always used the above method on the IRS Gen 4 rear suspension.

      Yes you can,

Put jack stands under the "chassis" and rest the car on those then proceed as normal doing both at the same time.

I have found when fitting heavy duty and extra heavy duty rear coils that I have had the weight of the vehicle lift off a chassis stand when trying to compress the coil to reconnect the suspension arm. This is one of the reasons I now change the coils one side at a time and keep 3 wheels on the ground at all times.

It may be possible to remove a coil, refit the suspension arm and wheel, then lower that side down on to the compression bump stop, swap the coil out on the other side then go back to the first side and fit the coil.

I think I have a set of rear springs from a Gen 3 that should fit if you want them...

Normally the longer spring is for the drivers side, this is because of the placement of both the fuel tank and driver on the right hand side of the car. However since you are in the USA and the drivers weight is on the left hand side you may want to rethink this if the drivers weight is heavy (160lbs +) or there is other extra fixed weight on the left hand side of the car. So fit the longer coil to which ever side of the car that has the highest weight, if the side to side weights are similar then I would be fitting the longer coil to the kerb/gutter side of the car.

If you find that the car is too lopsided, it is possible to make a rubber donut shaped spacer that you can fit between the upper coil mount and the existing upper top coil insulator. Using 1/4 inch insertion rubber, will give you an extra 3/8 to 1/2 inch increase in ride height, the free length difference is 3/8inch so if your left and right weights are similar you might want to fit a 1/4 spacer with the shortest coil.

PB/PC Challenger rear coils are the same size as Gen 2 Pagero and PA Challenger.
Gen 3 & 4 Pajero rear coils will not fit.

                          Hi OJ,
Thank you for that information, will make sourcing the parts easier and perhaps a little cheaper.I am actually looking at lowering (dumping) my PB as my wife uses it to taxi her elderly friends about and some have difficulty getting into the vehicle. It has been suggested we buy a smaller SUV but I would prefer to modify what we have as its a good vehicle and I've grown attached to it over the years. It's certain to be a cheaper alternative than a new car or younger wife!!!

Well this is a situation I have not previously considered, it would take a few days to work through this challenge. There will not be any off the shelf aftermarket springs to do what you want so these will need to be custom made. There are minimum legal ride heights that need to be complied with as well as maintaining adequate spring rates so the car can still carry the legal loads and not bottom out. Therefore you will end up with stiffer suspension that is less compliant, I would expect 4 custom coils combined with new struts and shockers to be about $2000, so if you want to go down this path rather than change vehicles then send me your email address via a PM so I can send you my best calculated guess at what might work.

If it was me I would be changing vehicles and looking at a secondhand Kia Sorento which is still under new car warranty.

                              Hi OJ,
I just got off phone where I inquired about the legalities of lowering my PB 4x2 (rear wheel drive) and was told it was legal as long as I had 100mm clearance. King springs make a -30mm coil to suit Tritons but most aftermarket coils are heavier duty than standard so I would opt to have original coils reset. About five years ago I had the rear coils reset 35mm shorter which worked well leaving the car level a stance I prefer. I had to shorten the rebound rubber of course and if I do go down this road again well definitely anchor coil to the axle pad (locating point). I like the Sorento but would probably go for a smaller four cylinder turbo auto that will run on 91 octane. Have you noticed most medium suvs require premium unleaded these days and it's bloody expensive. Also heard some time ago the government is going to phase out 91 octane. Now there is some fuel for thought.
