    MY 17 Pajero

    Hi all,
Just thought I would join this forum as I am thinking about getting a 2016 or 2017 Pajero GLS. I really like the car, and just had a few questions. I understand that the 2006-2015 models had a recall due to timing chain issues. Can anyone comment on weather the revised timing chain tensioner etc has completely fixed the problem? Or do these vehicles still have some timing chain issues?

Also, are spare parts easy to get?

Cheers, and I look forward to hearing from someone soon.

Mine's an early 2015 and no recall that I'm aware of, except for the air bags.

If possible I'd be going for a mid 2016 NX which doesn't have a dpf. They reintroduced them in models from around September that year.

Agree. I would never buy a car that has dpf.

I believe there was an issue with the small timing chain idler/tensioner at the top of the chain.
I bought a 2005 NP in 2009 and changed the idler in 2010...not a difficult job. The idler had considerable wear, but I did see pics of some almost worn out.
I checked the one I fitted about 100,000km later and virtually no wear.

No problem with the top guide from the NS on.

you betcha, just google shogun, montera and you will see thousands of bits available, generally at far more competitive prices than your steeler.
also many of the l200/triton bits are the same as well.

The recall definitely goes past this - my NT had the timing chain top guide recall.

Can't find any recall for top guide on the official government site.

I believe there was a timing chain guide recall which affected older vehicles (pre NS?) and also a timing chain tensioner recall which went right up until March 2014 NW's (mine just missed out - too new)

                    Tensioner recall:

No sure about the guide recall.

Thanks everyone for your great suggestions and advice. Regarding the DPF, can it be removed if purchase and MY17 model? Thanks in advance

There was a recall for the timing chain tensioner, not the top guide, if the chain was noted to be worn during the recall to replace the tensioner it was replaced.

Not legally but there are solutions.

Have not heard any dramas at all with the current DPF's, not to say there won't be but it seems to be off to a good start unlike Toyota and a few others. Certainly no problems with my own, as others have pointed out you wouldn't know it was there.

Sorry, I must have got confused between the timing chain tensioner and the timing chain guide - I assumed it was and interchangeable term for the same part

I have a MY16 Pajero GLS and highly recommend it. They changed the final drive ratio on MY17 and later and fuel consumption is a lot higher because of this.
