    Customised billstein lovells

    Hi folks.
I read a post a while back amongst someones blog about some company that customises the billstein lovell package to suit the mods you have done to your car.
If anyone could alert me to this that would be great as i am looking at doing my suspension soon.
    TIA
    Cheers

I would imagine if you contact Keiron at BushSkinz, he will tailor a kit to suit your needs and what you have fitted to your car ie: bullbar, rear bar etc. He has a number of different offerings depending on what you want to spend. Hope that helps.

    Cheers,

          Hi Pittsy,

Are you enquiring about a selection of off the shelf components to suit your requirements for a suspension upgrade or custom valving of Bilsteins only?

To be honest old jack im not too sure.
Just know that my factory suspension is about stuffed now after 130k kms and since recently putting bullbar rock sliders under body protection and dual battery and secondary fuel filter its gone down hill pretty quickly recently.
Just looking to replace it and obtain a 2" lift whilst doing it.
I just read somewhere some time ago that (now come to think of it i mb think it was ultimate suspension) do customised set ups for your suspension to suit the extra weight you have added.
So just want to know what the best recommended system is for my needs.

All suspension suppliers try to get a suspension kit that they think will suit your needs and budget. To get the best outcome you need to make clear what your expectation is in regards to ride height, comfort and load carrying ability and ask the question about what happens if you do not like it or it does not meet your requirements. Know what sort of ride you are after, comfort, firm or sport.
Ask will they change it over free of charge?

Because the Gen 4 Pajero's have independent front and rear suspension it is really difficult getting the choice of coils correct. Most suspension suppliers will tend to mimic the factory trend of firm front suspension and soft rear suspension, this is ok unless you travel heavy and or tow heavy. Unladen factory ride heights are 500-505mm front and 530-535mm rear, measured from the centre of the wheel hub and the underside of the wheel arch in a vertical line. Legally and sound engineering principles dictate the retention of 2/3's of the original suspension travel in droop so you are limited to 545mm front and 585mm rear if you tow or carry a lot of weight, otherwise 570-575mm in the rear retains the factory rake angle. Maintaining adequate droop travel is important as it influences the handling, steering and braking of the car as well as ABS and ASC safety systems.

4 coils, 2 front struts and 2 rear shockers will cost between $800 and $2000 depending on what brand you choose, fitting will be between $400 and $600 and you need a 4 wheel wheel alignment. At 130,000kms they may find suspension alignment adjusters seized and these will need to be fixed so correct wheel alignment can be done, ask in advance what the cost of this work is worth as they can be a time consuming job.

Out of interest I will post some Lovells spring rates as given to me by them. I have these fitted with Bilsteins and HD Firestone airbags. The setup works well in everyday use and towing my 1500 kg camper trailer. The ball weight of the trailer is bordering on 200kg fully loaded. Ride and handling is as good as I could ask for. Very comfortable and stable.

                Lovells front spring details
                CFR-90HD 815 lbs/inch 369KG
                CFR-90EHD 966 lbs/inch 438 kg

                Lovells rear spring details
                CRR-93 738 lbs/inch 335 kg
                CRR-91HD 869 lbs/inch 394 kg
                CRR-92HD 1015lbs/inch 460kg +20% difference

                Final set
                Front: CFR-90HD 815 lbs/inch 369KG
                Rear: CRR-91HD 869 lbs/inch 394 kg

I was considering to fit some bilstein/lovells too, but looking up this thread https://www2.pajeroclub.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=50467

made me think they might not be the best for our Pajeros???

Is this still a common issue of the Bilsteins to fail early?
