    Led headlights

Can anyone recommend some good quality led headlight replacents for the nw paj. The factory ones are preety crap once you've got a bullbar on.
Also could you tell me what type they are so i can look some different ones up on ebay. Eg. H7 H9 etc???

Also i read somewhere that someone replaced there reverse globes with some brighter led reverse lights.
Does anyone know what the reverse globes are buy any chance and a good spot to buy the brighter ones.
    Cheers

In NW I believe that the VRX came with halogen projectors. These use an H11 bulb. The projectors are decidedly average with a narrow beam pattern and a low high intensity spot in the middle, meaning that range is limited.

Replacing the halogen bulb with an LED bulb won't work very well, even if you can actually get one that fits (most don't).

The simple reason for this is that a halogen filament is cylindrical, emitting light in a 360 degree radius and the projector optics are designed around that shape. LEDs are square and most have two faces offering up to 120 degrees of light from each. That leaves two arcs, of about 60 degrees each, unlit, resulting in dark shadows being output in the most critical areas - the top and bottom of the reflector. To make matters worse the standard projector in an NW Pajero has only the capacity for low beam meaning that half the light output of the LED bulb is actually completely wasted, blanked off for the high beam function that the projector doesn't have.

The result is a nicely coloured, but pretty useless light.

    So, what can you do?

The first option is to fit better quality halogen bulbs. These can be had from Philips or Osram and certainly do make a difference. At $45-70 they are the most economical upgrade. Strictly legal too.

Replacing the halogen bulbs with HID is the next option. Much more light but limited by the design of the projector. Still, bang for buck it's the way to go. You do get what you pay for, though, and 98% of what is on Ebay is complete rubbish. Real quality is brand names like Hylux and CNLight. Hylux make ballasts for Philips while CNLight are a major OEM supplier.

From those choices are serious headlight upgrades involving retrofitting of new, bi-xenon or bi-led projectors and high beam upgrades of bulb and/or reflector.

I use Philips WhiteVision globes in my NW VRX. Noticeable difference from factory globes and completely legal.
I've bought mine online from powerbulbs.com/au/
      Hope that is helpful.

X2 for Powerbulbs. I have used them a few times and they have great service. They sell globes not readily available in Oz but are 100% legal. I am currently using Osram Nightbreakers for the low beam and PIAA Hyper Arros for the high beam. A marked improvement over OEM globes.

I've heard that because of the colour of the LED's, they tend to reflect back harsher in foggy/dusty conditions??

I've read similar for white leds. I'd not use them in headlights as I would question whether you could aim them and get good cutoff in a reflector not designed for them. Think you'll be blinding other road users in the same way hid conversations of halogens do. Not all but most not done professionally.
Select yellow as fogs maybe ok, I've some on order to try.

Where do STEDI state that their LED headlight conversions are ADR compliant? They talk about DRL and driving lights, some companies sell an ADR compliant replacement 7" round headlight (not much good to us).

I want to see in writing that LED "globes" are ADR compliant.

                        So don't ask me mate.
I simply posted a link to LED lights.

The rest of the world is keeping up with new technology and same cars sold brand new here in Australia are sold overseas with LED headlights.
As usual we are always catching up.
Just look at the internet mess we are all in now. We are behind third world countries when it comes to internet speed ...

Back on topic, I installed STEDI LED's, went back to professional mechanic who then "professionally" aligned the headlights using that machine (I forgot the name) ...
Since I installed them (more than a month) I driven mostly at night, suburbs and country roads (shift work mainly) and not once someone flashed me.
I do carry two original globes in the car if police ever pull me up for it, but so far they seem to have no issues with it. There was a police car coming from the opposite way or standing on the traffic lights across me and nobody bothered.
Since I installed them I started paying attention what lights other drivers use and there is quite a few with LED's.

                        Cheers

I recently put some HID globes in the low beam headlights of my NT Pajero. My standard headlight lenses are projector lenses for the low beam and reflector lenses in the high beam. I got the HIDs from the local auto shop for about $100, cant recall what brand. Came with ballasts, wiring, etc. Apart from joining in the new HID wires with ready to go plugs, the new globes were just a simple swap for the halogens, with the standard H11(?) fitting.

The HIDs are significantly brighter than old halogens and a very noticeable improvement. They are 6000K and a white light, not blue, but if i could have got 5000K then in hindsight that may have been a slightly better colour.

They are so bright I can clearly see the top edge of the beam. The projector lenses seem to guide the light beam perfectly and it sits just lower than the rear window of most standard cars and angles further downward as the light pushes further forward - so it doesnt blind oncoming cars or cars I'm following. I havent been flashed in the last 2 months. The light is also significant brighter to the sides, lighting up the road edges.

Auto shop said upgraded halogen globes for about $60 last 1-2 years, whereas HIDs should last many times longer. HIDs are a white light and made parking lights looks noticeably orange in comparison so i got some 5000K LED parking light bulbs from Powerbulbs so that both light colours match and headlights look like OEM and not an aftermarket change.
