looking to purchase our first ever Pajero

Hi we are looking to purchase a 2012 MK2 Platinum pajero. This will be our first 4wd and diesel ever owned. It has 96000kms with a 2 inch suspension lift kit.It is 1 owner since new with full service history. It looks to be in excellent condition' We are viewing first thing tomorrow morning. Has there been any problems with these. We will be towing a jayco swan, doing some light 4wdriving and my daily commute 30kms round trip to work and home. Asking price $32,500 any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look at this thread:

The rust issue on the top of the door frames should not occur on the NW as the design was changed, but check under the rubbers to be sure.

As it has a lift, have a good look underneath for any damage.

Pricewise, remember to factor in the "on road costs" & any big services, tyres, etc. coming up. Check Redbook & keep in mind a brand new/demo NX GLX can be had around $45k on road.

Assuming a private sale, be sure to check the PPSR for any encumberence.

we are looking to buy our first 4wd

thanks for the advice yes will do all necessary checks we were actually going Friday to purchase a brand new glx but got cold feet a lot of money for first 4wd. We actually looked at a 2011 nt vrx 2weeks ago 73000kms immaculate but as it was only the second car we had looked at and hadn't done any research on the nt we passed. It got sold within 6hours for around $31000 as I phoned the owner just to see what it sold for. They were honest people so I believe his price.Redbook for that model was around $24000 roughly very hard to get a true picture as a month or so before that a 2012 model not sure which one sold for $25000 with 12 months rego 108,000kms on it.We had just started looking for a paj then and that had multiple people after it,It sold straight away.Spoke to a few 4wd places today in regards to the suspension lift just to be sure it was all safe and wouldn't affect anything. If we do purchase it would like to get a 4wd place to do a check over it as the owner fitted the lift kit himself. He has owned it from new with full service history,it does look immaculate and he said they have never got round to doing any offroad stuff,so will certainly be having a very good look over it.Detrac in Adelaide has serviced it from new so can give them a buzz as well.Cheers for your response.

Yes, as you have discovered, the Pajeros do hold their value quite well (regardless of what some "big T" people might think). IMO that is what makes them such a good new buy at around $45k d/a & I don't see this changing much - resale may even rise a bit when they eventually stop making them..... I always buy new if the funds are available, for "peace of mind", but everyone has different needs & budgets - very important to be comfortable with your purchase.

Also worth checking with your insurer re the suspension mod to ensure they have no issues with it (in any case, all mods have to be advised when you take out the policy to ensure the policy is valid). Plenty of people appear to be able to insure modified cars, but I'm unsure if all insurers will for all drivers.
