NS Pajero A/C condenser foam seal

    Hi
Has anyone replaced the perished foam seal around the A/C condenser that sits between it and the radiator?

    What did you use?
    Thanks

I have found with my past 3 Pajero's that the foam just does not last. I found an anodised piece of +- 2mm aluminium plate that slipped in between the top radiator brackets nicely and looks nice and neat. I have left the sides open as plate will not work there. You can try pool noodles (do not know if you get them there ) but they will not last that long.

Think I might see whether hot water pipe insulation foam tubing will work, either cut and glued together, or uncut if small enough. Should be quite durable. Lots of different sizes. Silicon in place.

I can see how a metal strip along the to edge would easily be effective.

Is it really worth the effort? Does the foam just improve airflow through to the radiator?

no Really sure what the actual purpose of the sealing foam is as there is an electric fan on the outside. I am refurbishing vehicle so it is just another thing I want to do. Sikaflex may get returned if not needed so the cost will be less than $10.

Two lengths of this lagging glued together.

And this is how it all fitted in.

Just laid radiator back shoved it in and bolted rad back up. Held by friction at the moment until weekend. Might just dab a bit of glue in a few places to secure it. Don’t fancy scraping and cleaning of all the old cheese. Also bunged in a new Stebel Magnum horn (got to stop reading these posts and getting ideas) replacing the two original tweeters. Only had to run new ground wire to the original bracket. Tone has dropped, and by my iPhone, dB has increased by 2-3. Doesn’t sound that much louder in my shed though.

It didn’t move. I returned the Sika tube and just used a few dabs of ShoeGoo (best glue I have ever used). Bare in mind that it does block a couple of rows around the edge of the radiator. Also, unlike the original foam, it is a lot firmer so not sure what would happen in a water crossing. The original foam would probably move aside.

Engine temps have not changed since the install.

Mate, a bit off topic here but is that the Stebel Magnum? what do you think of it ?

                    Yes it is.
Lower tone than original horns so not sure if it better or worse. It is slightly louder according to my iPhone compared to the two original horns. For $20, thought I would give it a whirl.
