    Spare Wheel Cover off centre

ONoticed today the spare wheel cover seems to be off centre in relation to the spare wheel/tyre. I pulled the the spare wheel off and there is no sign of any damage, but when all together the wheel appears to sit to the right, whereas actually the swing part of the cover is sitting to the left.

    Any suggestions

The hinge assembly on the rhs has been bent - probably "over-extended" while it was open. The sheet metal to which the hinges attach has probably deformed. You'll probably need to take it off to fix it - you might need to drill out one the bolt heads, but it's a standard M6 thread, so not hard to find a replacement. M6x16, from memory, but whatever the other bolts are - take one out, find a match, then drill.

          Thanks NJ,

Had a good look today, and there is some bending of the tube frame on the opening side where the bolt throughs are to secure the door, but I cannot see any other deformation on the hinge side.

Any photos of exactly where you suspect the deformation to be?

            Hi Sabre,

I would be looking in this area:

But I could be wrong - it could be on the catch side, I just can't imagine how that side would be damaged without an external hit, which I would expect to be clearly visible.

              Off Centre Spare Wheel

I would suggest having a look at the 3 bolts that actually mount the spare wheel to the carrier. Mine looked similar but I noted that the actual bolts had not been aligned correctly and were tightened down on the edges of their respective holes rather than centred into them.
