    10 inch Android head units

    Hi Folks,

been following and reading back on various threads here of aftermarket head unit installs. On some recent searches for what's on the market
I've come across some 10.1" screen units that have really got me interested.

The one that ticks the most boxes for me is the Eonon GA2163. Doesn't have the latest version 7 Nougat but is a 6 unit. The feature I really
like about it, that sets it apart from the other contenders for me, is the multi adjustable screen. Otherwise I was looking at the Pumpkin model.

Have sent a message to ask Eonons ebay shop if I'll need extra connections to keep the steering wheel stereo controls. Not sure that the
connections they supply will do that, though their marketing says its at least compatible.

Wish there was a fascia on the market that switches the 2 din pocket to sit above the trip meter. That would be perfect with a 10" screen.

Has anyone on here done a 10" unit install and if so what brand do you go for and why?

    Cheers,
    Jim.

I have recently installed Eanon GA2164 7" unit
I and some others have issues with "hands free". The extension mike does not seem to work.
Only had google reply to me once but lost translation.
Siri still seems to recognise me and chats to me via iPhone through the system tho

Go for the later model - the earlier ones take 30sec to boot when you start the car, and all that's available until it has booted is the reverse camera, later ones (like the pumpkin linked) go into a low power standby indefinitely* and boot as soon as you start the car, so radio etc are all available straight away.

      * They do have battery level detection and will turn the unit off to prevent running the battery flat - if this happens it will boot from scratch so take 30sec or so to boot.

Also keep in mind that the hardware is fairly generic for these units, so the likes of joying etc will likely also have a tilting screen model.

Steering wheel controls depends on how they send the signal - if it's resistive (changes the resistance to ground based on the button you press) then you can wire it direct into the headunit, but if it runs through CANBUS you likely need an adapter for it to work.

What issue do you have with the mic? I have 2 joying units, have been told that my earlier model has reasonable quality hands free, but my later model one picks up heaps of background noise and the other end can barely hear/understand what I'm saying due to it. Haven't actually tried troubleshooting it yet, so may be something simple.

The mic does not seem to work at all. The one time it did work (with bad voice recognition) I had to go into one of the apps .Hardly makes it hands free.

From some posts here and other sources it seems the mics placement can have a big affect.

Some vendors recommend the top of the A pillar but I wonder if centre console above driver is better? After all
isn't that where the stock one is?

          Cheers,
          Jim.

Wazzap you're right the Auto Pumpkin unit has superior specs for sure and would be my preference if I wasn't hung up on wanting
the screen on a ball joint. So its ergonomics and anti glare vs better speed and storage. Not in any rush; still at evaluation stage. Have sent
Eonon another question regarding boot time. They have advised me their unit is AD mode compatible for SWC.

            Cheers,
            Jim.

Personally i wouldnt get too hung up on boot up time. By the time youve started up, seat belt, got moving etc...... it doesnt bother me that i have to wait a few secoinds for the radio to turn on And as previously stated the reverse camera will activate immediately from start up if i have to reverse so no issues in my opinion.

Like I said just my thoughts.

Mines at the top of the A pillar in one car, because that's where the stock mic was (stock worked quite well), but I'm planning to move it and see if it improves anything.

The pumpkin one mentions it has an adjustable viewing angle too, most likely just an updated version of the eonon one.

It's not too bad, but given you can get the same thing with fast boot, I don't see why you wouldn't.

the Eonon one wouldn't be hard to mount since it has the cable and easily removed screen (as per the instruction pictures)

Still leaning to the Eonon unit. Boot time no biggie like aussieintas says.

The Pumpkin only has hinge joint so only tilts up and down. Eonon on ball joint with 30deg movement all directions. Can also slide the screen higher on the mount point.

If the Pumpkin had the ball mount I would have already ordered one.

I placed mine on top of the A pillar. The unit has a mic also on the top left corner.
I might disconnect the ext mic and see if that does anything

But if you were inclined, you could make your own mount and rotate more ... Since it has the cable

Have ended up ordering the Eonon GA2163 unit. I can live with the cold boot up delay as long as the unit isn't buggy.

That multi angle screen is a HUGE plus for me. May not have latest version of android but then neither does my phone.

Also ordered a DAB unit to go with it which should be nice. Got this fascia with spare ISO harness for the install.

If it all arrives during next week I'll hopefully have it in by next weekend as I have the week off work.

Can post Pics and thoughts once done if anyone is interested.

                            Cheers,
