    Front suspension knock

    Hello,
I went for an alignment and was told that my lower control arms needed to be replaced in order to get the alignment. From what I know, the lower arms and the stabilizer link were replaced.
I immediately heard a knock sound when I make turns. It feels like something is about to pop outta place. The mechanic said that its because of the new components just need settling. That was 3 weeks ago, so I thought I'd get some input from you guys first before I take her back.
Any clue to what that sound is? Thanks.

Not sure why a mechanic would tell you this. Front lower control arm bushes and ball joint are repaired by replacement. You need a press to press the old bushes out and new ones in. But there is no need to replace the whole control arm to effect this repair.

The only reason I would replace a lower control arm is if it was bent. Its pretty rare to bend a lower control arm, so to bend both at the same time is unheard of. That you have a knocking noise after they completed the repairs suggests something might be loose. Take it back to the mechanic who did the work. Explain to him he needs to fix the problem and if he can't you will expect him to pay someone who can. But you need to give him a chance to fix his mistake first.

The entire suspension components are pretty much rusted out, so the lower arms were the only thing he mentioned but eventually I will be getting the entire thing replaced. The funds are pretty low now.
I just bought new tires which calls for an alignment and thats when found out they werent able to do it unless the c/a were replaced.
I also noticed that the stabl links he also replaced were showing tears. I already told him to fix this as this is my wifes car and I dont want her to break down especially in the 110* heat here in Vegas.

Hi Darkside, If your entire front end needs work the the issue could be the upper control arms bushes are flogged out or the upper ball joint is worn. Unfortunately you need to be handy with tools to achieve a cheap solution.

Hopefully your mechanic is sympathetic to your plight. Good Luck

Thanks fellas. I just purchased the upper control arms which included the ball joint and bushings. I also bought the inner tire rod with the boot the drivers side looked to be torn.
Ive never taken this off road so dont know why the boot was torn. Im guessing the mechanic had something to do with it.
