Wiring for fridge and battery charge

    Hi all,

Had my HR towbar fitted a week ago and now I am about to attempt the ETB wiring, brake controller, fridge and battery charging wiring. I have ordered the MM ETB harness to make it easier and a Tow Pro Elite.

My question is does anyone know a good spot in the engine bay to tap into an ignition feed to operate the relay powering the fridge and battery wire to the caravan? The previous vehicle (Kia Sorento) that I wired up didn't have an ECU controlled alternator so I used a VSR. Have to use a normal ignition operated relay in the Pajero.

    Cheers,
    ian

This photo shows position of a empty fuse position ( for fuel pump power that the PS does not use ) . It has power when ign on and for about 10 sec after ign turned off . Most use a piggyback to connect , logon/join Facebook PS forum for more info.

Great, thanks for that. Is that a special connector you have used and where can I get one?

I seem to have a 20a fuse in that spot (F2)?

It's ok, I can see now that it is the F3 position that is spare. Still need to know where you got the connector though.

          Cheers,

Its called a mini add-a-circuit fuse tap for mini fuses. Avaliable at JayCar and supercheap etc.
What you do is remove the existing yellow 20A fuse and insert it to the lowe slot of the fuse tap and then insert another fuse of correct rating to the top slot (this is used to protect the relay or switch) and then insert the fuse tap into the hole that the 20A fuse came out off.

OldPS used that exact same fuse.

I use the F3 empty fuse spot and ran the wire out the hole where all the leads go from the white plug at the top of your photo .I left the bottom fuse position empty, so that no volts to where ever the F3 goes , and put a 5A fuse in the top slot to protect the circuit to your relay . I bought the mini and micro plugs off e-bay .

                Engine Light Comes Up

I followed the lead here and now have the Engine light up and doesn't seem to want to go out.
Up until now I had a piggy back fuse/lead in the 20 amp fuse socket and all was good.
                Anyone else have this problem?

All's good, the light was gone when I started the car this morning.

I always run the extra wiring under the kick panels, under the trim up over the rear wheel arches and you'll find grommet filled holes at the bottom/side of the rear guards that you can bring the wiring out of to terminate at the caravan/trailer socket.
After I take the wiring outside the car I cover all the wiring in split conduit just to protect it against stones damage etc.
Fill the exit hole with black silicone sealer.
It can get tight running several 8-10mm cables this way but it can be done, if you find it too tight run cables down both sides of the car.

I haven't had the need to install a second battery in any of my caravan tow vehicles but the size of cable you will use there will probably need to go under the car all the way which should be relatively easy.
Having been under the car a bit I would think there are quite a few "safe" places you could cable tie the cables to.

How are you securing your fridge in the rear cargo area?

Bringing back an old thread. Wishing to trigger a couple of relays of the F3 fuse location as shown at the start of the thread to run heavy gauge wire back to my camper fridge and battery. Bought the Jaycar piggyback fuse holder. Noticed it was pretty loose when engaging it. I bent the terminals a little to get a bit of pre load in the sockets. All good now and relay's enabled. Anyone who has done this mod. found any ongoing problems or downsides? I worry that the loose connection may prove unreliable. Comments from those that have tried appreciated.

Are you saying the slots for the fuses on the fuse tap are lose?
