NP Pajero 4WD selector lever stuck

I was a long way from home and struck clutch problems that required a clutch replacement.
When I got it back I had some electrical problems as they didn't put the cables back correctly onto the batteries. Apart from that it appeared to drive fine. I got it home, and have found that the 4WD selector lever is stuck in 4hlc & 4llc however the dash show it is in 2h and 4h respectively.

I cant move the lever down to 2h and 4h but I can move it between 4hlc and 4llc.

I have it in with my local mechanic but he is scratching his head at the moment.

Any suggestions on the cause ??

    PS...its a manual.....

    Thanks

    Mark

How far are you from where it was (allegedly) fixed?
I'd be getting it back there

The lever is not mechanical it's just an electrical switch - so... has it moved somehow so it doesn't line up with the fascia? and actually you are in 2h or 4h as indicated.

Yes, it does appear the display is correct....regardless of what the lever says, I am in whatever the display says....but I am unable to physically move the lever back into 2h or 4h....

So If you move the lever between 4hlc and 4llc, the dash lights change from 2h to 4h?

Just did a clutch in a 3.5l NM. You need to remove the transfer selector assembly under the console to remove the gearshift lever.
I found that there are alternate mounts for the transfer lever assembly, probably auto/manual positions.
I suspect that is your problem...

                  Tommo123 is on the money.
The transfer lever can be installed one way for RHD cars, or 180 degrees out for LHD.
Lift the center console, undo the transfer lever assy, spin it 180 degrees, bolt it back down and your problem will be fixed

Thanks....but I a litttle confused....if the work they did was replace the clutch, and there is no evidence of them touching the Centre console at all, how would this have haappened requiring this fix ?

To get the gearbox out they would have had to remove the console, to get the gearbox selector out. And to get the gearbox selector out, the transfer lever assy is in the way of the bolts for the big rubber boot and has to be removed....
They would have definitely pulled the center console.
Rip out the cup holders, there are 2x screws underneath. Then unscrew the transfer and gearbox selector knobs. The section of console will lift up at the back and slide out at the front.
                        Cheers, Dan.

Too late Dicko. I've been known to celebrate at the opening of a letter.

Ps. I actually have some faith in this fix.
