    Air flow meter cleaning and good outcome

    Hi all, just wanted to share some good results from air flow meter cleaning. My NP petrol 3.8lt has been thirsty since I had it 4 years ago. It has been running on an injection type LPG and the fuel consumption was like 20-22lt per 100 kms. Tried various things from injector cleaning to oxygen sensor replacement, nothing seemed to help. Mechanic had a look and could not find any problem.

    In early december, when I was cleaning the air filter, I thought I better open the AFM and give it a good clean. I could feel improvement in terms of responsiveness straightaway. Idling was not very smooth for the first few days as the computer was trying to learn. Idling is smooth now and the last tank few tanks gave me a fuel efficiency figure of 16.5lt per 100 km. More importantly driving is much smoother as well. A good experience overall, so anyone with a bad fuel economy may give it a shot. Cheers

    I agree I've just cleaned the little bulb until I seen you spray the whole thing and man does it go now better reponse

      I have just done mine as well, so this sounds promising. Replaced the filter and cleaned the MAF sensor. It seems to run better, but time will tell on the fuel consumption.

        Yes. Also recently cleaned mine, about 2 weeks ago, however I now have a creamy milky oily radiator, so I had a great car with nice fuel economy and good response, for about 1 week. Now I've got a sack of ......

          Not a good sign.....is it an auto? If so, simplest possible explanation is a leak between the in-radiator cooler for the auto transmission, letting trans fluid seep into the cooling system. New radiator, coolant and oil change.
          But if it's a head gasket problem or some other issue allowing engine oil to mix with coolant, harder to diagnose and fix.
          2010 MY 2011 VR-X V6. Stock standard.

          Previously 02 NM auto V6 Exceed silver. Extra transmission cooler & transmission temp gauge, activated rear lights, Impco sequential LPG system, Redback (Wildcat) Headers, heavy duty radiator. Lovells shocks F & R, Polyair bags in rear.

          My original Pajero experience - '90 NG Superwagon, 3.0 V6 manual bought new and kept until 1998. Great vehicle, no problems apart from the noisy valve lifters typical of that engine.

              Try CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner.

              Worked for me.
