Trading NT Platinum for NP - Advice needed

    Hi all,

I am planning to trade my NT Platinum diesel manual for most likely an NP Auto petrol. I previously had an NM Exceed auto so I am across the 3.5 engine issues. Just wondering what to expect with the 3.8. Also with a budget of $12-14k what should I be looking at? Current Carsales tells me an 05-06 with ~150k kms is about right? Looking for Exceed model ideally.

Also how do they go on gas? There's a few for sale on gas at the moment, can you expect the same engine life from the 3.8 if it's been on gas?

    Thanks all.

    Brian

I've just picked up an NP Platinum 3.8 and currently getting it back on the road. I can tell you it suffers from all the same symptoms the 6g72 and 6g74 had. Leaky tube seals, rocker cover gasket and its a little more annoying to work on. The rear bolt on the intake plenum is impossible to get to with a torque wrench/ratchet, fuel rail has to come off to access the rocker cover bolts now (don't remember if that was the case on 6g72). If it was fitted with factory DVD Mitsubishi doesn't have the security code stored on their system.

Apart from that i cant really comment on fuel economy or drivability. Mines been sitting here since christmas.

My wife has the car in my signature; very nice car to drive, but, as you would expect, very thirsty.

It now has about the K's that you're looking at.

          NM(P) to NT(DiD) to NP(P). ??
As a previous NP DiD owner, why the step change to the NP petrol?
My NP had many things better than my NX, and not getting a NP diesel is perfectly understandable. Curious why the NT is getting ditched. I thought they were a good choice.

            Hi all.

Good questions re the motivation for the change. Main reasons for the change are:

I have an issue with my left knee from a car accident where I was a passenger so need to go back to auto.
I want to have money left over for some mods and also to assist with a deposit for a house.
We have changed office location so I don't do ~90kms a day anymore, only do about 20.
I feel now is a good time to sell while the value is still high, only paid $28k from a dealer almost 2 years ago and from my research it is still worth that much.

The NT diesel has been great, best engine I have had in a car and te reliability has been great, hasn't needed more than a regular service.

            Hope that answers everyone's questions.

            Thanks.

Motivation for change is up to you and what suits your needs I reckon.
Is a change to a NT auto able to be done at all perhaps, that way any mods you have already can simply be transferred.
Won't give you a dep on a house tho
