    What master cylnder is this?

Decided to have a look at my brakes on my early 2003 NP, expecting to find a HBB but instead it appears I have a traditional vacuum servo.

I guess the good thing is it's going to be a lot cheaper to replace if I need to!

Was it only on the 3.8s that the HBB and ABS were standard?

Would my master cylinder be the same part as fitted to the NM without ABS?

    Cheers,
    Chrisall

you may have ABS (thats a seperate module to the Brake master cylinder) it may be that the alternative you are looking for is for models with traction control, this is just a guess however
1994 NJ 3.0 now with a 2000NL 3.5 engine and driveline, 2.5 catback, 32" MT Deegan 38's, 1" body lift, front diff drop with front tension rods indexed and cranked an 3", 3" on the rear coils
*** retired to the big wrecking yard in the sky***
1998 NL 3.5 blisterside, running a 6g75 (3.8) with M90 supercharger at 14psi, 305.70.16's on -44 rims 3.5" suspension lift, Custom Bull bar, winch install, custom front control arms, NJ GLS flares and some camping gear in the back

Fairly sure that the ABS is integrated into the Hydraulic Brake Booster HBB. Mine doesn't have this and instead has ye olde vacuum servo.

After some investigation I believe it is part number MR475274 or 4625A201.

yes but plenty of vehicles have ABS on vacuum brake's, Gen 2 certainly did and most road cars still do.

Just a follow up for anyone who may come across this master cylinder.

Mine must be in the minority as it definitely doesn't have ABS and it doesn't have the HBB. Part number on the master cylinder is as I thought MR475274 (which succeeds to 4625A201).

I managed to find a new one on ebay, non-genuine unfortunately and I was in two minds but in the end I needed to get the brakes sorted as a priority. Pedal still has a fairly long travel before much happens but it is noticeably firmer and no longer sinks gradually. The servo looked like some fluid had been leaking from the cylinder as paint was stripped off in places, so I sorted that out whilst the cylinder was off.

Bleeding was easy with it not having the HBB. Didn't even have to take the wheels off. Flushed around a litre of fluid through and most of the air came out via the load sensing valve on the rear axle. Hardly any air left in the system when I did the fronts, just nice clean fluid.

Overall, pleased with the result. Next job on the brakes I think will be discs and pads and a good look at the calipers.

          Cheers,
          Chrisall

Early NM GLX and GLS V6 did not have ABS and thus did not have the integrated HBB/ABS system.

Mine's a 2003 NP, which I thought unusual not to have the HBB

Mine is a Oct 2002 NP with no ABS. I have exciter rings on the CV's so assume it was very close to getting it.

ABS was an option on early NP models but were standard on the Exceed. I tried to buy a GLS with ABS and there weren’t any in the country at the time – with the colour I wanted anyway. That’s how I ended up with an Exceed.

                  Cheers

My 5/2002 NM Exceed does have ABS brakes. Good idea on the road but bloody useless on the beach. Would love to be able to disable them when sand driving.
