    Toyota Fortuner 2015

I'm waiting eagerly to see what the new 7 seater Toyota Fortuner has to offer and at what price?

So far I know it has a new 2.8TD, 80litre tank, Diff lock and a few other toys such as a reversing camera and rear vents in the base model. Keen to see how the pricing and reviews will be, but it sounds like a capable truck

I would imagine it will sit between the FJ Cruiser & Prado on price, so as not to cannibalise sales, particularly from Prado. Perhaps about the same price as HiLux? It will be difficult for them to set it's price point, as they will have so many heavy duty 4WD models in a similar segment.

Interesting how they suddenly appear to have renewed interest in the private market since the huge lucrative sales to mining & construction have waned, plus more competition from other makes. It just goes to prove that like many makes they only do what they have to do to make money and not strive for the best customer outcome at all times - only when it suits them............doubt this will ever change.

It is certainly an interesting time for anyone looking for a new 4WD - so many new models to choose from. It should also keep prices competitive as they all fight for sales in a saturated market. This can only benefit the consumer.

There will be no dodging the toyota tax either by a relatively higher non negotiable price and or heavy despeccing. From what I understand the despeccing extends to the fortunner not having counterbalance shaft that the prado runs. What next manual windows!

Id wait for a more honest comparitive review as the motoring scribes do tend to maintain a honeymoon period for new vehicles.

They look so similar, except for the rear tail lights of course. Toyota Aus have said they will launch it at the end of the month. I think the same for the Challenger

In Thailand there is the full range of Challenger competitors. You do not see many Challengers as other brands. Not sure if it is pricing or brands like Isuzu and Chevy have the hearts and minds battle won.

Priced @ $47990 GX, $52990 GXL and $59990 Crusade, add $2000 for auto, imo are priced well for the amount of standard equipment, $10k cheaper than prado (gxl vs gxl)

                $53k + $2k auto for the GXL?
Great value for the kit you get. Love the rear diff lock.
Finally Toyota offers a reasonably priced off road wagon, in DIESEL (sorry FJ cruiser).

Interesting that these are part-time 4WD. I suppose this allows them to distinguish from the Prado.

Are they "drive away" prices or "plus on road costs"?

AT tyres on the 2 lower models - finally someone is listening.

I note the 3t towing is for manuals only?

                        Mr 4x4 previewed the Fortuner:

Mid-sized 4X4 wagons are making a big headway in sales over the last few years, with guys like Isuzu and Mitsubishi making strong, growing sales in this booming segment. There’s…

Notes the new Challenger is coming, speculates it will have a MIVEC engine.

Heck they got a few things right. More torque on the auto than the manual, 450 versus 420 but the 420 starts at 1200rpm But auto lower CVM

Low first gear result of feedback from Australian engineers.

Rear diff lock across the range but with a traction control system that works

Ground clearance of 279mm. Err this is called running clearance? Same thing? But at 279mm leaves everything else for dead

Styled by Steve a Wonder and Ray Charles

                          Wadding depth 700mm

Eighty letter fuel tank. Getting realistic.

Might be a Toyota I like as long as I wear really dark glasses and ignore the Achilles heal of low payload numbers.

I looked at a Fortuner yesterday, 279mm clearance no way! 229mm if you are lucky!
Underslung spare that has the winch access in the tailgate frame so you do not have to unload the cargo area.
Plenty of room for a second battery under the bonnet.
Rear cargo area is small compared to a Challenger.

                            cheers, OJ.
