Link to workshop manual in case it helps (select correct year):

Was the fuel from the same servo? If so, I'd be having a chat with them or the oil company that supplies them - they may have a leak in their tank letting water in?

Good idea to clean out your tank & change the filter, as water can cause major failures & cost in these common rail diesels. Good to hear the factory water trap worked.

      re draining tank.

I contacted the servo who said he tested his tanks and found nothing. But about the tank draining can it be accessed if you leave the tank in situ but remove the filler tube which appears to enter the tank low at the rear of the tank, just a thought .

There is a procedure in the workshop manual (refer above link), in the fuel section. It appears to require special tools as there does not appear to be a drain plug.

Whether simply draining the tank would be sufficient I'm not sure - it may need to be cleaned? Others may know more about this?

Regardless of the servo operator's comments, I would either ask the oil company or change servos. I doubt any servo operator would admit finding contamination in their fuel, for fear of claims for damages from customers.

looks like no drain bung you disconnect the supply line to engine and syphon it out that way?

the special tool looks just like the bulb shaped squeeze type pump like this ebay item

not sure you would get everything out doing this though?

maybe someone can chime in with for info as it would be handy if you ever filled up with rubbish somewhere instead having to call tow truck.

The water would be at the very bottom of the tank and pumping it out may not remove it all but hopefully someone has done this before. It is easy to drain the filter bowl regularly but that wont fix the problem. If there was a drain plug it would be simple.

You sure there is no drain bung? NP has a small one. Roughly in the rear third of the tanks, accessed through a small hole in the cover tray. They might have change the tank by the NT though.
