    Pop-Up camping "ensuite"

Just looking at a deal to get one of those pop-up ensuite thingies with a 20l toilet in preparation for some camping… I've already got the 20l solar shower bladder which will also be used in the pop-up.

In images of the pop-ups that I've seen, some appear to have floors and some do not. Now I can see the obvious pros of when showering your wet feet aren't on the wet dirt/ground/sand… Do they drain from somewhere during use or does the water pool up until you have to say, tip it out?

What do people who have one of these ensuite tent thingies recommend???

What is it like hanging a 20 litre (20kg!) shower bladder from them too- can they hold it?

Yeah, we have one of those cheap pop-up toilet/shower tents. Blows over in the slightest wind Yep, the water pools in the base, so I ended up cutting a large hole in it. I just place the tent on top of those interlocking rubber mats. The water bladder is too heavy for those pop-up tents. I ended up buying one of those 12v showers..just plug into a cig lighter outlet, place the pump in a bucket of water, and you have a beutiful shower! Heaps better than those shower bladders.

      Hmm ok thanks.

      Good idea about the mats.

Chances are the tent will probably be placed next to the car so it can be tethered from it's top to the roof-rack so it won't blow over quite so easily.

You'd think that they'd be strong enough to hold the water bladder when you see them being sold with them! But it'll be easy enough to secure it to the car when the tent is next to it. Don't think I can be bothered with a 12v pump system like you mention, the bladder works well enough for me anyway.

My folks use one of the pop up tents without a floor and they just use one of the rubber 'puzzle' mat things with holes in it. Just have to leave it outside for about 2 minutes after your shower and it's already dry.

I have two, Both open floor IIRC (Never used either yet).

The first one is the one that folds into tight circles and provides hours of entertainment watching newbies trying to fold it back up.

The second one looks like its obsolete from Anaconda Its a quickup brand with external fibreglass pole frame and far easier to use than the tight circle PITA

I'm led to believe the framed types are far superior, but they are more bulkier.

These are supposedly the ducks guts. Never seen one though:

Foam camp mat with the holes is the go for flooring. Also an additional one outside the shower tent for when you get out.

As for shower, I used to use a modified garden sprayer, but a couple of years back moved to a hozelok 4140 portable shower (also an obsolete Anaconda item). If water isn't an issue then those 12V pumps are good. If water is an issue, then the garden sprayer is king. I can do the family in 5L of water

These mats are fantastic, I used to use this sort of mat for years

but more recently, changed to a timber mat which I find is much better.

I have two that have been gifted to me that are roofless and floorless. I think they are more ideal for the shower bag as you can hang it from a tree. 20kgs of water is alot of weight to hang from a pop up structure.

Started with a pop up one. Died second time I used it.

Now have one you put up and it's much better. No floor so we use 6 foam duck boards. They have holes to drain and the 2 outside mean you can step out and keep dry feet.

We use a 20L toilet and a 12v shower. I find the shower really good as I can set the temp by the amount of hot and cold water in the bucket. Also means the misuses can use all the water in the camper.

                    Thanks all, good tips.

I might try one with a floor, if I don't like it I can always cut holes in the bottom for drainage.

Rubber mats sound good, Kmart have some for cheap (already planned on getting a few).

Was dubious about them holding up a 20kg bladder!! Whilst the 12v pump or the "weed sprayer" type setup sounds great, I can't be bothered and the bladder is good enough for me, I'll find a way to hold it up

I got a pop up ensuite from Aldi. It is enclosed and has a floor. The floor however is meshed around the perimeter so that the water can drain. It is also zippered so the option to remove the floor it there too. Quick set up and fold away into the circle but is also reinforced with a couple of fiberglass poles and a guy rope on each corner.

Cost was $30 IIRC. I was prepared for disappointment but have been pleasantly surprised by this one. Unfortunately Aldi yet to appear in WA.

Sounds like a beauty! I'll have to keep my eye out. I bought a roll up table off Aldi a couple of years ago, and it's been great..actually identical to some of the brand name ones. so probably made in the same factory, but at half the price.
