    NG Turbo budget build

Here goes at a new adventure with my new NG. The plan and direction for this vehicle is a daily driver, but weekend off road warrior all on a low budget.

    Specs-
1989 NG 2.5 turbo diesel intercooled
    LWB
    Manual

Picked her up as a bog stock grandpa vehicle for $3700, even with original 16" chrome rims. Un@*$#@*$#@*$#@*$#stered was what I was looking for, so I flew to Adelaide and drove the beast back to Sydney. Except for an alternator failing half way, we made it back unscathed.

So far I have just raised the front 45mm, cleaned up extra wiring, threw some 4wd rubber floor mats, full service and fluids, and put a large stereo system in.

Future mods include but not limited to

    33x12.5 muddies
    2" body lift
    Heavy duty clutch
    2.5 turbo back exhaust
    More boost
Pyro / boost / oil pressure gauges
    Custom front winch bar
    Custom rear bar
    Rock sliders
    Front projector headlight conversion

That would have to be one of the cleanest NG's I've seen.
Now time to change all that.

Clean is surely what it is / was.

New photos from today! 33's are on and loving it, no scrubbing so far however some flares will be required asap. Ended up getting BF Goodrich MT KM2

            Shouldn't rub
If I agreed with you, then we would both be wrong

Tiny bit full lock left, just on the plastic inner guard which is not a concern to me. Can't wait to hopefully get out and about this weekend. Very happy with the change in diameter, it has brought the revs down at 110km/h to a more normal level and not a great loss in power.

Awesome another Gen 1 around here!

Welcome and well done on the purchase. You must have really been keen on a Gen 1 to fly to adelaide to pick it up!!!

Thats something I would do, especially for a grandpa special!

Look forward to seeing the mods.

Thanks Andrew. For the price of course I could have gotten something else but having an NF as a first car, I've got a soft spot for them.

Anyone got any good ideas or photos for flares?

                    Great looking 1st Gen!

We've got one of those gathering spiderwebs after the motor went, this thread is starting to tempt me into modding it!!! Just need to hide it from the Mrs with all of the other projects going on!

Oh mine has flares on it, I'll see if I can grab some pics during the week

For sure eman, cheers. I'm not far at all from your location. I did consider an ls1 conversion but spent the cash elsewhere

you could just go to ARB/TJM and get yourslf a roll of rubber flares with the metal insert (to keep it rigid). They come in two widths I think.

Otherwise if you want proper import flares, have a look at the kiwi trademe website as they have plastic flares that come up from time to time.

Third option is to try ebay for the factory fibreglass flares. Although I have only every seen them come up a couple of times and when they do they go for a fair amount.

Subscribe to the pick n payless blacktown website so they email you when a new gen 1 arrives. There is always the chance that one of those will have factory flares. You can also view photos of the car too so you dont waste your time on the phone or going out there.

My least fav option, is to go the bunings and get some garden edging

Well all seems good with the 33's so far.

I've found a mates mate wrecking a 2nd gen, so I should have some trailing arms and front calipers to fit up the next few days. Also going to bite the bullet and splash out on the bushranger flare kits $85 each

Look at grabbing the steering box too if you can
