    Power steering failure

    One for every-one to check.
If you do a lot of really corrugated dirt road driving, be aware that the bottom hose connection to the steering rack can and does work it's way lose letting all the power steering fluid to be lost.
This happened to us on the way back to Winton from Lark Quarry in QLD. Luckily I had been talking to another Challenger owner on the caravan park we were staying at and he had told me of this problem the day before we had gone out to Lark Quarry. Talk about good fortune as I knew where to look as soon as I felt the steering had loaded up.

You can get at the bolt that is the problem through the back of the bash plate but it is easier to do if the bash plate is off.

Also be aware of Mitsu Dealers with the costing of capped price servicing. Had our 30k service done in Brisbane and was told the 45k service would be over $700.00 and the valve adjustment would be around $500.00 and we also should have the pollen filtered cleaned. Had the 45k service done in Port Augusta in SA, cost $538.00, valve adjustment $396.00 and my 2010 model doesn't have a pollen filter, so go figure. I will be ringing around to check the cosst of my next capped price service before I have the 60k done.

    Anyway, safe travels to all.

    Regards

45000 service is same capped price as 30000k ie $580 unless you have to replace parts other than scheduled service items. Just had the 30000 done last wed.

Had the same problem in the Flinders Ranges just last week, took of the bash plates and found the loose hose connector. Fortunately also carried extra steering fluid

Had the same problem with mine out on the West Coast. Luckily I felt it go early. After having fixed it myself (as everyone else has) I took it to the dealer when I got home. Reply was "Yep, common problem on the MY10..."

If you have capped price servicing then go back a demand your $396 refund
The valve adjustment is part of the 30,000 and 60,000km service and therefor all inc in the $580 . I think you will find the dealers claim back the cost for the valve adjustment from Mitsubishi, so if they are charging you then they are double dipping

Also check the factory paints seals on the rocker cover nuts, that they have actually been removed to perform the valve adjustment !!!

Thanks for the information as this happened to me leaving Batten Hill. 400km before getting to a service station to get fluid for the rack.

I lost my steering fluid too.....as a result of a service!!
Timing belt was replaced and drove the car home. Found a large puddle of oil next morning.
                Not impressed!!
