    Gas useage

Hi all, new to the forum. my name is Ben.
i've read a lot on here about this subject.
My bus is a 99 mk triton dual cab with mixer type gas system.
    31*10.5/15 muddys.
    Omvl r90/e mixer.
my gas usage going to work was about 280klm to a tank (66lt). 23.5 lt to 100klm.
highway about 320 klm to tank. 20.6 lt to 100klm.
sounds a lot compaired to some on here with average of 12-15 lt to the 100.
But there is more went to Tatura 2 weekends ago and got 200klm for first tank of 61 ltrs 30.5 lt to 100klm. thought it was dodgy gas.then second tank on way home 160 for 60 ltrs 37.5 lt to 100klm.
tank after that was half going to work 30.5 lt to 100klm. and this tank seems back to normal, wont know till i fill up later in the week.

just wondering if any one had any ideas?
cant see any holes or smell gas, it has me stumped.
oh and wasn't towing or anything like that.
might have to send it to the vets i think!

    cheers all Beno.

      Hi Peter
only had it about six months. the previous owner had it for one year and had to put new system in for roady when he bought it apparently. so i suppose 1 and a half years ago. think i'll take it to smithys in bayswater they did a good job on our patrol's straight gas conversion
      cheers Ben

Yes, they will increase fuel usage - but nowhere near that much.

had the service done. said it needed a few tweek and adjutments, etc, etc.
see how it goes over the next tankful. filled it up last night after picking it up and had gotten 29 lt to the 100 out of it. it had better improve now ,i hope so any how.

sent it back to gas place. had a slight hesitation b4 it went in, came back with a big one. its only occasional. gas mob had it 4 three days. it seems it was the electronic power valve closing off, wouldn't do more than 3000rpm when playing up. have a manual one in atm. will see how the economy goes next week.
they also said it had poor coolant flow through converter. did a flush out and new coolant . also put a new thermostat in that didn't have the center cut out.
no wonder the heater was near useless.
                    oh well fingers crossed.

righto got 300ks out of tank (66lt), much better. only travell 8ks to work and back so probably still cold for a couple of them.
did a run up to woos point through to jamieson and a little bit of 4x4ing through Big river, and back home through eildon. got 344ks to empty. big improvement. i think i'll get about 360-380 on the hwy now.
looking into new o2 sensor a its also thirsty on petrol which could be the problem from the start as the gas reads from it also i think?
thanks heaps for the replies and input.

On the original setup of the OMVL reg's they had issues with the Reg freezing up at idle, which would probably explain why the centre of the thermostat was drilled out. Now that you have replaced it, you need to have the vehicle running on LPG and a quick check after 5minutes at idle and see if the OMVL is warming up or cold as ice. If cold as ice i would up date the OMVL reg to a more modern unit particularly if you are enjoying the Heater working.

The 02 sensor should be checked by an LPG or local auto electirican to see if it's cycling correctly and will give immediate answer if this is the problem.

                              Hope this helps
                              Cheers
