Hope not...................
Just to be clear:
- factory tow loops on the front of a Gen 4 Pajero are fine for recoveries (they were even tested for this by Mitsi Aust), but try to use a bridle to spread the load.
- rear tie down...

Here is the maintenance schedule for a 2016 Pajero - yours would be the same.

Don't forget a couple of dampeners for the strap & learn how to use it SAFELY before your trip - these have hurt & killed people in the past.
Does your car have a towbar?...

A good compressor is vital.
Long handle shovel.
In High Range, you need to turn the ASC off every time you restart the car, as it will try to bog the car in soft sand. Low Range turns it off for you.
The auto &...

Tensioner was 2006 to 2014 - refer link:
https://www.vehiclerecalls.gov.au/recalls/rec-001025
So some NW cars were included.
Top guide was Gen 3, not Gen 4, ie, NW is not affected.

Timing chains usually last the life of the engine in these cars, unless the tensioner fails.
There were some faulty tensioners that were recalled here in Oz, so check if there was a recall in your country & if so, check the car was done....

Note that when the valves are done the 6th time, which is at 180k if done per the book, the fuel pipes must be replaced. This is a significant cost on top of the adjustment which is already expensive, so factor that into negotiations.
This...

Check the cabin filter (behind glovebox) - although unlikely to be the issue, easy to check.
There is a flap to control the hot air behind the console somewhere, that people have said was their problem when no hot air. Try searching for...

I note this is a Pajero Sport thread (from the OP) and some comments may relate to NX rather than PS?
Accessories can add some value, but they can also limit the market, as some buyers may not want roo bars, etc. & they certainly don't...

I wonder if the battery current sensor could be faulty? (but I have no knowledge of how these work).
There are quite a few things in the workshop manual that you could check:

In that case, I would seek a second opinion before doing any work....

Refer my questions/comments in post #3
I would make an appointment to discuss with the Service Manager if you decide to proceed....

Do your hazard lights work?
Has any work been done on the car recently?
Has it been through water?
I assume you have checked the belts?
Have you checked the connections to the battery are clean inside & tight, including the...

If you removed the battery lead, the ASC light will stay on until you have driven for a few minutes (not just idling). This is normal.
If not this, then your new lights are probably not canbus compatible.

Have you checked the timing chain tensioner? The chains don't usually give trouble in these engines.
I would consider replacing injectors at mid life on these engines.
What grade of oil are you using & how much do you add...

The tappets are quite a precise job.
On the NX, there is a kit of seals that must be replaced to ensure no leaks, etc. There is also a pressure test required after reassembly, again to ensure no fuel leaks. They need a special MUT unit (or similar?)...
