G'day Pauly. I just read an old post of yours pasted below, thought I'd let you know it's WD40 (CRC) , it's an old detailing trick since it's basically just fish oil, it serves two purposes nice and shiny and some rust prevention. anyway though you might like to know.

Just don't use solvent based stuff(i.e most degreasers in a can).
I use alkalyne degreaser like denso etc, works great.
As for the shiny remains, i have noticed a few mechanics leave a slippery residue behind but for the life of me can't think of what it is they use. it leaves everything all glossy for a few weeks.

Thanks for reply pauly, I have removed RH head the one with four teeth advanced, all other timing was correct presuming if belt skipped then this cam(inlet) would be retarded four teeth belt was tight and hydraulic tensioner out to 5mm so presume previous repairer about 1k ago allowed cam to slip over TDC when installing belt, the lady owner(from new) advised me ran warmer and low power since belt replaced and finally stopped with a rattle noise.
Result four bent inlet valves one lash adjuster broken and cam tunnels gouged, bores still have good hone pattern pistons look fine, have located sh head which will need service so that should be ok. With no experience with pajeros I am uncertain if at 275k are rings likely
To be at end of life or do they run to 400k plus? And is there a rusty core plug at rear of block?

hi pauly sorry to keep bugging you...i found the ticking noise and all it was is the cover that sits on the back of the gearbox that covers you unis and seal had come loose...it seems to just press on but if you push on it it just comes loose.. im guessing removing its not a good idea as it will expose the unis and seal.....would some sika flex or somthing help to hold it on.....

    thanks
