Hi. The usual problem with no overdrive (4th) is the trans/engine temp sensor. (Overdrive will not cut in until the engine temp is up to a certain heat.). On the diesel it is the single wire temp sensor on the thermostat housing. Check it is connected...

This is only a suggestion but could the cam sprocket have been put on the wrong way around? It's centre may be deeper on one side?

Every year more and more gen 2 go to the great 4x4 track in the sky. It is really sad as they are so easy (and relatively cheap) to keep in good condition. The NL's especially were arguably ONE of the best family 4x4's of all time.1 Photo

I have only ever used Castrol Dexron auto fluid. You can use any fluid marked as DEXRON, DEX or DX . It is one of the most common trans fluid for older vehicles (Nissan, GMH etc) DON'T use any that say for FORD vehicles ( unless it is an All Vehicle...
