I have removed the entire tow bar assembly on my ute off the frame rails to dramatically increase the departure angle. The frame rails at the end are now no longer bolted together.
It seems like the bar was an aftermarket accessory as the wiring cable was spliced into the existing loom and I can still read a name and location on the part.

My question is, should the end have some kind of support or is it safe to leave it how it is?

Its fine, if it didnt get a tow bar as an option somewhere down the line it would have been as you see it now- towbar less.
