Default Quote for BFG AT 265/75/R16 or similar

Hi,
Need new shoes for the Paj and thought I would go up a size to 265/75/R16.
Will be going with LT and in an All Terrain.
Have received a quote for BFG AT in the above size $305 fitted and balanced. Is this a good deal, I plan to buy 4 or 5.
Was also considering Bridgestone D694s, will get a quote shortly.

Hi,

I need some new ATR's soon as well and I want LT. Not sure if I'll do 265/70R16 or 265/75 re: the DiD auto torque converter issue.

Can you list whatever brands you research and the prices you get, plus your location or tyre dealer. I'll do likewise.

I've had Michelin ATR 265/70R16 passenger and they have done approx 65 - 70,000kms and are just about done (on it when i bought it). I've been happy with them but i understand they are exxy to replace, so i'm most likely to go to Cooper ATR or similar. I'll review the main brands i can think of for suitabkle ATR type tyres and and go from there.

As I understand it, the tyre placard for NM / NP / NS / NT is 265/70R16 is 112 S 1040 kg and its size is:

Rolling Radius 388.7mm
Circumference 2442.27mm
Diameter 777.4mm

Some go to 265/75R16 but its bigger:

Rolling Radius 401.95mm
Circumference 2525.53mm
Diameter 803.9mm

ie. 26.5mm bigger diameter and we're only supposed to be allowed a 15mm increase in diameter

Others go for 275/70R16 but I understand they rub a bit and they aren't a common size so are difficult to replace in remote areas.

Rolling Radius 395.7mm
Circumference 2486.26mm
Diameter 791.4mm

ie. 14mm bigger diameter (within the allowed 15mm increase)

As to brands..JEEZ, there's alot, and I haven't bothered looking at 275/70R16...

Paid $295 in Sydney for 265/65/17 in BFG, I imagine the 16's would be cheaper. D694's in the same size were about the same price. You get a free black max compressor until the end of July with the BFG's, worth $300 they reckon.

Received quotes this arvo in Geelong from:
Bob Jane @ $325 for BFG AT
Goodyear @ 312 for Micky Thompson Baja ATZ 4 Rib
Highway Tyres @ $320 for BFG AT
$260 Maxxis 761
Tyre Plus @ $305 for BFG AT
Surfside Tyres @ 315 for BFG AT

$305 is the best price so far.

I priced Bridgestone 694 LT at $295 in 265/70/16. Bridgy dealer in Mt Gambier.

Got Goodyear Wranglers 265/75/16 LT for $285 at Beaurepaires in Mt Gambier.
Happy with what I have.

Al, stop worrying about the torque convertor(crap IMHO). Just go with the 265/75 tyres.

If the tyres present a problem to the convertor, what happens when you tow?

I can tell you if you like, ring Tyre Plus at Sutherland on 0295451888 and ask for a price on a BFG 265/65/17 and he will tell you $295 each fitted. And he'll also mention if you buy 4 or more BFG will throw in the compressor. Got mine 3 weeks ago at that price.

Maybe they cost more in Perth but in Sydney thats what I paid and they have BFG written on them and they are siting on my NT's 17 inch rims.
I actually paid even less as they gave me $150 for my new spare. For the 5 BFG's it was $1325 which is only $265 each.

Cheers Ian, I hadn't thought of that ... i had read the forum posts as relating more to changed gearing??
