Hi
I'm new to this forum and new to the whole 4x4 thing. Recently i bought a 1993 Pajero 2.5 Turbo Diesel with about 303,000 on the clock.
I have just gotten back from a road trip of a little over a week driving from Adelaide to Melbourne to Canberra to Sydney and Back to Adelaide.
Now the problems are, Oil Leak and Coolant loss.
These were pre-existing issues before the trip.
The Oil Leak
The leak appears to be coming from below the intake manifold and the exhaust manifold, and running down the block. There is fairly minimal oil loss. It just seems to dribble some oil every time i stop, and makes a big mess on the drivers side of the engine.
Now the thing is i can seem to locate exactly where its coming from. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but it seems that when i give it a boot full and the turbo kicks in and starts boosting it starts to smoke up from the exhaust, not a white smoke but a blackish exhaust that you can notice in the rear view mirror.
Now i am just having a stab at it, but i thought maybe the turbo was leaking oil and it was going though the engine and leaking some where along the exhaust or intake manifold.
Engine power seems fine, turbo power delivery appears to be normal, i have oil pressure, that goes from 1ish at idle to about or over 2 when revving around 2k or above(I've heard about the accuracy of the stock gauges, but better than nothing).
Also the turbo oil feed line seems to be covered with oil, the section that is coming out of the block to the turbo, there appears to be droplet of oil hanging off of it, suggesting a build up or source.
The coolant loss
Over the road trip i would appear to loose about 1L over say 600km of driving, and this was continues driving all day. There would be coolant on the over flow tank but there would be a loss in the radiator. The coolant remains clean and green, no signs of milky and there are no signs of coolant in the engine oil. The temp gauge appears normal, a crack under half. I don't know if the 4D56 2.5 Turbo is water cooled, i had a look today and couldn't see anything, i was perhaps thinking that the turbo seals had gone and oil and coolant was being used there. Perhaps the water pump? There aren't any signs of water loss though leakage, i don't see stains or water leaking out. Where would it go?
Currently these are the only two problems with this pajero, everything else feels fine, engine was strong and was reliable, fired up in the morning after some glow from the plugs.
Apologies for the essay, but i have read a lot of forums and i am trying to give as much information as possible to help any one out there to help me to diagnose my problem, or at least point me in the right direction.
Thank you in advance, and any assistance would be greatful
