Kieron, where do you stow your Porta Potti? Have just picked one up and am not looking forward to stashing it in the car.. Was thinking of on the roof rack..??

Hi MrBitchi.
We bought a water proof bag some years ago for our porta potty, when on big trips with the storage unit in (Previously in the LWB) the porta potty lives in one of the forward compartments under the bed. We have done some very harsh traveling with it in this position and have not had an issue. They are built pretty well these days and so long as they stay upright and everything is done up properly then you should be right. and having it in the water proof bag it means that if anything did happen it keeps it contained, the only leakage you may get is from the cap where you fill the flush system up with water we have had this in the past and all that we had to do was put a plastic bag over the hole and then screw the cap on over the top of the plastic bag. If it is in a waterproof bag one of the advantages is I guess that if you do actually happen to get a crack in the holding compartment you can deal with the issue by simply picking up the bag and throwing the whole thing in the bin and buying a new bag and porta potty. If you have roof racks and there is empty space up there for it then it is not a bad place for it either, personally I try and keep as little on the roof as possible, such as the second spare and possibly the chainsaw. But for trips to Fraiser etc I used to find it pretty easy to fit 5 adults and luggage, 2 tents, fridge, porta porty, recovery gear etc in the back of the LWB. I find this impossible in the SWB without roof racks hence why I have removed the back seats and tell them to buy there own 4x4 now ![]() Cheers, Kieron (BushSkinz 4x4)

Past experience with other vehicles has been intermittent electrical connections cause unexplained temperature gauge fluctuations ... might pay to cross check with an independant temperature measuring system... cheers

Kieron, have you fitted an EGT gauge since you installed your "chip". I'm of the opinion you may have been overfueling during the long slow slog uphill and this will result with higher than normal EGT's which also impact on engine coolant temperatures.
Another thing to consider and this is if you have an automatic, is that the auto trans temps get so hot the "in the radiator" trans cooler now heats up the coolant. I've seen cases in Nissan Patrols where the auto trans temps are up over 130C and boil the radiators. Hence, my Patrol now runs 2 external coolers and no radiator "trans heaters" so I can manage my auto trans temps under any conditions. Regards Andrew. |

Thanks for the replies guys, I am more inclined to think that it was either a intimitant issue with the thermostate or air in a line or something like that, seen as it only happened twice straight after each other once offroad and once with the mrs driving back home sitting at about 70-80 for about 20min, since then I have been off road going slow up hills, camping fully loaded, fully loaded plus towing up mountains and around, vehicle idling for lengthy periods, pushed it through redline numerous times even driven for 10hrs straight and am still unable to get the temp gauge to move at all. So in the last 2 weeks I have done about 3000km of virtually all types of driving, so at this stage I am satisfied that some type of glitch in the cooling system must have happened and has either worked its way out of the system in the case of air or possibly thermostate getting stuck a couple of times and has since freed up.
You are right in terms of the auto getting pretty hot, but I don't believe that it would have been anywhere near as hot as it has been in the past as it gets extremely hot on stockton. Cheers, Kieron (BushSkinz 4x4)
