importing tyres

this might be a dumb question but
does anyone know if tyres need to meet an australian standard or are they covered by their load/speed rating?
has anybody imported tyres?
does anybody work as a importer? is it insanly hard work?

since motorway closed down their doesnt seem to be anybody in aus selling remould tyres i found some greenway tyres in england but i think they have closed down as well

No they don't have to be load/speed rated to be imported, but they do if you want to drive on the road with them legally. Interco Swampers are popular aggressive tyres that you can buy in Aus, but are not load rated so technically you're not aloud to drive them on public roads but that doesn't stop anyone.

You'd probably find the cost of importing just one set would be phenominal (sp?) compared to buy something over here.

Both the Greenway and Insaturbo tyres are cheap knock offs of tyres that are already available here anyway.

If you're after some cheap and aggressive you should check out Silverstone MT117 Extremes.
