Knocking sound, tapet faulty?

My NF has developed a knocking sound, that apperas to comm from the top of the motor, drivers side. I supect it may be due to a faulty tappet. BUT I have not lost any power and the sound some times goes away.

Check your oil level, mine makes a similar sound if it's running low on oil.

Sounds very lifter like, a fairly common occourance.
