    super charger

    hi guys,
was reading an add the other day for a NL 3.5 sohc (same as mine)
for sale. this car was supercharged!! is this a bolt on procedure or a major effort? in the add they said that this car was pulling 139 kw. i was understanding that we had a little more than that from the factory.
    a bit

Factory specs are usually quoted at the flywheel, this s/charged vehicle is probably stating Rear Wheel Kw. Roughly calculated through drivetrain losses, we're looking at around the 200Kw at the flywheel.

As far as "bolt-on", this depends on the supercharger. A stand alone centrifugal type would require brackets, plumbing and a belt, and would be a fairly straightforward conversion, whereas one that bolts to the top of the engine (like the old V8 ones), would require an inlet manifold adaptor and alot more work to fit.

I had a look at using forced-induction for my NH. I decided it was to much effort for the potential gains. I was looking at a turbo setup as I had all the parts lying after i replaced the turbo on my volvo s40 t4. I even have a freshly rebuilt engine but couldn't put it through the torment of psi. unforuntaly can't quickly and easily (not to mention the cost factor) convert a heavy brick into a performance car. Not worth it IMHO
